Giving is an act of worship

God doesn’t need your money, but He will use money to test you. In fact, Jesus taught about money more than heaven, hell, and prayer combined. Your money habits reveal what you truly worship because it’s effortless to spend money on that which is your real god. For example, if you find it hard to give, but you find it incredibly easy to spend money on clothes, it may mean that your wardrobe is the real treasury of your heart.
Handling money God’s way always starts with the belief that He owns everything (Psalm 24:1), and therefore, we are simply stewards of his property. Tithing (i.e., giving 10% of your income) reminds us of this fact (see Deuteronomy 8:18 and Proverbs 3:9). Generous giving also demonstrates that you believe God is the provider of all things and trust his promises. In fact, the only place in Scripture where God tells us to test him is with our giving (Malachi 3:10). He's saying, “Go ahead, I dare you: see if you can out-give me.” Accept God's invitation to put him to the test. Start tithing faithfully and watch what he does in and through your life. |
“‘Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.’”

After all, the Bible instructs us to avoid debt--and pay off any debts quickly (Proverbs 6).
